Industry: oil, gas and petrochemical

Oil and Gas Facility Roofing in the Industrial Heartland and Nisku

Control rooms, shops and warehouses on industrial sites. Prequalified, permitted and documented.

The roof behind the operation

Oil and gas facility roofing is about the buildings around the process: control rooms, maintenance shops, warehouses, offices, labs and electrical buildings at industrial and petrochemical sites. Rain Roofing works on those buildings in Alberta's Industrial Heartland northeast of Edmonton and in Nisku south of the city. We roof buildings. We don't work on process equipment, tanks or piping.

These sites run on prequalification, permits and procedure. Getting through the gate is part of the job, and so is leaving behind a roof the site's maintenance team doesn't have to think about.

Buildings, not process

The buildings we roof on industrial sites

Every building on a site has a different tolerance for water. A shop can live with a drip for a day. A control room can't.

  • Control rooms and operations centres, where a leak can reach electrical and instrumentation equipment.
  • Maintenance shops and warehouses with long spans and large overhead doors.
  • Administration buildings, change houses and lunchrooms.
  • Electrical and motor control buildings, often modular, with tight edges and many penetrations.
  • Laboratories and support buildings with exhaust stacks.

Prequalification and site access

Owners and general contractors on Heartland and Nisku sites prequalify trades through ISNetworld, Avetta or ComplyWorks. Rain is registered on all three platforms and keeps its records current, so your procurement team isn't waiting on paperwork.

We hold a Certificate of Recognition (COR) through the Alberta Construction Safety Association, WCB-Alberta coverage with clearance letters on request, and liability insurance with a hot-work endorsement. Our crews complete owner site orientations before work starts, and we build orientation time into the schedule and the price so it doesn't land on your timeline.

Hot work, permits and gas monitoring

Torch-applied SBS is common on these sites because it is tough in the cold and handles foot traffic well, but it is hot work. On a site with hydrocarbons, hot work runs under the owner's permit system, with gas testing, a fire watch and clear limits on where and when the torch can be used.

Where a site restricts open flame, or a building sits close to a process unit, there are alternatives: cold-applied SBS, self-adhered membranes, or PVC and TPO welded with hot air instead of a flame. The site's rules decide what is allowed, and we plan the system around them.

  • Job hazard analyses written for each roof and each task.
  • Trained fire watch for every torch operation, with extinguishers at the work area.
  • Personal gas monitors wherever the site requires them.
  • Daily toolbox meetings and sign-in with site security.

Roof systems for industrial support buildings

SBS 2-ply is the default on many industrial support buildings in Alberta: durable in deep cold, resistant to hail and impact, and simple to repair. PVC suits buildings exposed to chemical fallout. On modular electrical buildings, edges and curbs are often tight, so details are drawn up before the crew arrives rather than worked out on the roof.

Timing matters as much as the system. Many sites hold roof work around turnarounds, when contractor numbers peak and laydown space and gate access get tight. We prefer to work either side of a turnaround, and when the roof has to happen during one, we plan crew numbers and material laydown with the site's turnaround coordinator.

Whatever the system, we document it: product data, application records, photos and warranty paperwork, ready for the site's maintenance files and any later audit.

Questions

What facility managers ask us

Ask your own
Are you prequalified with ISNetworld, Avetta or ComplyWorks?

Rain is registered with all three. Tell us which platform your site uses and we will connect to your company profile so your procurement team can see our current safety records.

Do you work on process equipment or tanks?

No. We roof buildings: control rooms, shops, warehouses, offices and similar structures on industrial sites. Insulation and cladding on process equipment is a different trade.

Our site restricts open flame. Can you still install an SBS roof?

Often, yes. Cold-applied and self-adhered SBS systems avoid the torch, and heat-welded single-ply membranes are another option. We work through it with your safety team before we quote.

How much time does site orientation add?

It varies by site, from a few hours to a full day per worker. We build it into the schedule and the price so it doesn't surprise anyone.

Can you respond to a leak at a Heartland site after hours?

Yes. Our 24/7 emergency line covers the Heartland and Nisku, with crews on site within 4 hours where site access allows. We follow your site's after-hours entry procedures.
